Applications where water, humidity or other liquids
come in contact with cable glands require the utmost
attention to corrosion resistance. Even small amounts of
moisture ingress can result in big problems. Food processing, paper production and water treatment commonly need
a higher level of corrosion control.
• Nickel-plated brass or aluminum are cost effective
alternatives to Stainless Steel for lower-moisture areas.
• Non-metallic materials, such as Valox, or 304 or 316
Stainless Steel should be used for
higher-moisture areas or when water
or other liquids come in direct contact with the cable gland.
• Add an O-Ring to greatly increase
resistance to moisture ingress, as
well as seal out dust and other particles.
• Ventilation plugs to reduce adverse
effects of humidity by preventing pressure increase inside the
enclosure and limiting temperature
increase by circulating air. They are
permeable to gasses and vapors but
impermeable to liquids and dust.

• 316 Stainless Steel is the standard
upgrade for submersed applications,
however it can get expensive.
• Valox is a non-hydroscopic material
that won’t absorb moisture, and will
also stand up to chemicals in water
treatment, such as chlorine. It is also
typically less expensive than 316
Hot environments with high ambient
heat, large temperature fluctuations or
direct heat require the right high-temp
materials for long-lasting reliability.
Commonly found in welding, food
processing and paper production applications, these cable glands must not be
compromised by temperature.
• 304 Stainless Steel is the most resilient in most of these applications
and also provides excellent corrosion resistance. However, it is typically the most expensive.
• Nickel-plated aluminum is a less-
expensive alternative to Stainless
Steel, but provides a lower level of
corrosion resistance in applications where moisture is
also a concern.
• Valox is a non-metallic material that is suitable for
both indoor and outdoor use.
